Sangu River

Sangu River

Geographically Bangladesh has too many rivers. In terms of rivers, Bangladesh beats many countries that are bigger than Bangladesh. Whatever, here I like to introduce the Sangu River, Bangladeshi traveler’s favorite river. Before anything about the Sangu River, tell me first, did you ever see the Jungle, Into The Wild, and the Anaconda movies? Why did I ask you this question? In these movies, at some point, we see a deadly river. That river is narrow but very very long, at first, it seems a normal river but when the characters move into its deep. They discover this river goes through between big big mountains. These mountains are home to deep forests. When the characters go further along the river they encounter huge huge stones. Sometimes the characters have to get off the boat to move the boat forward because the river is not deep there. And every moment they are amazed by the beauty around the river. The Sangu River is exactly that type of river. It goes through the hilly Bandarban district mountains. In the monsoon season, all the water of the mountains flows into that river, and at that time it looks deadly beautiful. If one goes along with the Sangu River one will find many tribal communities. For example; Remakri, Tinddu para, where the Marma community lives. A place called Boro Pathor in Sangu River where big stones eagerly wait to welcome tourists. Even there is a very big stone that is locally known as Raja Pathor. And if you get off the boat and look around the Sangu river, you will see many small waterfalls. Don’t ask about the natural views of the Sangu River. I first visited the river in 2018, then in 2020, and in 2022, each time its views won over me. and each time, I was totally lost into it.

Location:

Geographically, the Sangu River is connected with the Bay of Bengal in the Chittagong District and ends at the Shangu-Matamuhuri Wildlife Sanctuary in the Bandarban district. But we the travelers like the Sangu river from Bolipara to Remakri, especially the Thanchi to Remarki part. So, technically it is located in Thanchi.
