About char kukri mukri

Located at the mouth of the Meghna and Tetulia rivers and right next to the sea, it is a somewhat triangular island with a narrow canal dividing it into two. This island saw the light in 1912, and gradually its size started increasing. In the very beginning, it was just a vast sandy land (sandy land = char), and many dogs and rats (Kukur and mukur) could be seen here, hence its name Char Kukri Mukri. When people started to live in the southern part of my country, especially in this area, they asked the government to set forestry over land to prevent them from natural calamities like floods and cyclones. The govt. did, and the deed became the blessing of the island. It turns the island into green mangrove; even the Char Kukri Mukri Wildlife Sanctuary is there.

How it looks

I think the southeast part is the most enriched part of the island where maximum tourist travellers like to explore and camp. To be more accurate, the real exploration starts from Dakatiya Ghat. From there, a narrow canal goes through mangrove forest to the Char Kukri Mukri watchtower and ends in the sea. As a mangrove forest, tourists will find sundari, keora, and posur e.t.c mangrove trees, and canal cruising through the forest is really fascinating. Tourists trek through the forest to the watchtower, its landmark on the island. The place provides a wide range of views; it would be more lovely if tourists could watch the panoramic view from the watchtower, but sadly the watchtower is closed for some unknown reason. From there, tourists have to cross a narrow canal and again trek through the forest to the coconut garden, another travel landmark. This is really interesting to see the coconut garden among the mangrove trees. This coconut garden can be called the last destination of the island. After this, there is a wide sandy & green beach, and everyone camps around the place. Because this type of beach is unique and picturesque, offering a contrast between the dry, warm sands and the vibrant, cool greens.

Camping

From the point of view of camping, campers usually look for places that offer a peaceful, scenic, adventurous and immersive experience with the natural world. Char Kukri Mukri, the island, offers wide sandy and green beaches that are more peaceful and scenic than any beaches in Bangladesh, and in winter this beach becomes more beautiful because red crabs and Siberian migratory birds occupy the beach. Behind the beach there is a damn mangrove forest which is home to several wild animals. At daybreak, tourists can be Bear Grylls and hunt the beauty of the forest. In nightbreak time, when tourists are enjoying a campfire in the camp, the ultimate predator (fox) of the forest comes near to the camp to welcome tourists. And as I already mentioned, there is a canal that goes through the forest, so there is the luxury of canal cruising through the mangrove. In general, Char Kukri Mukri set the tone for camping.

Best time to visit?

As the land is low-lying and at high tide extensive portions are underwater. But in the winter, the water level goes down, making it possible to roam and camp, like nature allows us to see its beauty and gives us a chance to break the shackles of regular monotonous life.

But what do we return to nature? nothing but destroy nature day by day. Recently the island got popular; tourists and travellers are heading there. That’s how it should be, but why do we throw the waste anywhere? What, all of you want to turn the island into a garbage ground?
