Debotakhum

Debotakhum

Debotakhum is a mysterious and beautiful place deep in Bandarban, where nature exists in its own form. Surrounded by mountains, rivers, waterfalls, and greenery, this place will leave a mark on the minds of nature lovers. It is a magical stream where a wonderful mystery of nature is hidden deep in the mountains. Bandarban has always been famous for its mysterious natural beauty, and Debotakhum is the best spot where tourists can enjoy the mysterious pure nature of Bandarban in a day and return home.

How it looks

Bandarban always immerses travelers in nature, and being immersed in nature is another level of pleasure. Debotakhum is the finest place in Bandarban, where travelers can really be immersed in pure nature. Blue-green water flows through the center, surrounded by tall granite walls. You will feel as though you have entered a different world while floating on a raft. Every moment in this place will be filled with adventure. Khums are always top-notch in terms of delivering pure nature. Wait, my friend, do you know what Khum is? Khums are similar to canyons, but they are always submerged in water, sunlight hardly penetrates, and a silent enviroment. Debotakhum is more special because it is known as the king of Khums in my country. The depth of Debotakhum is 50-60 feet, and its length is 600 feet.

How Debotakhum Gets Known

Before 2018, people had no idea what Debotakhum was or where it was located. But then all of a sudden, it’s trending on social media platforms. Maybe local travel enthusiasts have done it, but I don’t know who has done it. Then, in the same years, many tour operators and tour groups operated many trips to Debotakhum and posted about it on social media platforms. I also visited it with a tour group. Consequently, it became famous all over Bangladesh before the year 2019 came. In today’s time, this place is one of the best places in Bandarban without any doubt. So, it is not mysterious anymore, it is the most lovable spot of Bandarban. “Floating on this raft of happiness, I will smile and laugh with green wings and reach the land of fairy tales”, that is what I felt when I rafted there, and I am sure my travel buddies will feel the same.

Location

Debotakhum is situated at Shilbandha Para of Kacchaptoli in Rowangchhari Upazila, Bandarban District.

How to go

There will be no problem reaching Bandarban, as it’s well connected by roads from other cities in my country. Then, from Bandarban, travelers will have to come to Kacchaptoli. In the past, travelers had to first come to the Rowangchari Army Camp. From here, Tourists had to hire a guide, submit information papers at the Army camp, get permission from the police station, and then come to Kacchaptoli. Now, all these are done at once in Kacchaptoli. Tourists can easily come to Kacchaptoli by renting a vehicle from Dhonesh Chattar in Bandarban, and to visit any spot in Bandarban, you have to rent a vehicle from here. In short, there is a dedicated organization here to rent vehicles for tourists. However, after getting permission from Kacchaptoli, tourists have to trek for 40-50 minutes along the banks of the Tarcha river to Shilbandha Para, which is a wonderful village of Marma tribals. A little further from Shilbandha Para, you will see a structure named “I LOVE DEBOTAKHUM”; this is the entry point to Debotakhum. Each tourist has to pay 200 BDT to cross the entry point. Boat, raft, and life jacket rentals are all included in this 200 BDT package.

About paperwork and permission

First of all, upon arrival in Kacchaptoli, tourists have to hire a guide, and it is mandatory, for every 10 people, tourists have to take one guide. After that, tourists have to buy a form for 50 BDT, and tourists have to fill out this form and obtain permission with a photocopy of their NID or birth certificate. In essence, you hire a guide there and bring photocopies of your birth certificate or NID. The guide will take care of the rest after that.

Activities

1. Trekking: The 11-kilometer path that one has to traverse to see Devtakhum is no less than a beautiful trekking trail.

2. Rafting or boating: Khums is meant to explore it on a bamboo raft. You are sitting on a Bamboo raft, the lower part of your body Submerged in cold water, and Slowly moving forward. Sometimes the raft will get stuck on the green rocky wall by the side, sometimes the silence of the khum will be the focus of attention, and in the end, you will be captivated by the pure nature of Khum. If you are not ready to wet your dress, then you can explore the whole khum by boat. But still, I prefer the Bamboo raft for exploring khum.

3. Explore the village: Tourists can explore the village after enjoying the Khum or before entering the Khum, These Marma tribe people are very humble and they allow tourists to explore their village.

Food and stay

Travel enthusiasts start their journey very early in the morning to explore Debotakhum, so I would say it is better to have breakfast in Bandarban city. Usually, tourists have lunch after exploring Debotakhum, and a good place to have lunch is the hotels in Kacchaptoli Bazar. My favorite hotel there is Lirgaon Hotel. Apart from that, there is a food shop in Shilbandha Para. If tourists get tired from trekking, you can have light food from here.

Usually, tourists choose Debotakhum for a day trip, so they no longer need to stay there. If tourists have other plans along with the Khum, then I will recommend them to stay in the Bandarban City. There are plenty of staying options between 1000-3000 BDT.

Timing

Tourists are fond of Debotakhum because of its Blue-green coloured water. And this watercolour form in its best in the winter season.
