I visited my hometown, Chandpur, after 10 years

In my childhood, I loved going to my hometown, Chandpur. My parents come from Chandpur. Frankly speaking, they used to live there, grew up there, and also got married there. After their marriage, my father got a government job in Dhaka. So, they left Chandpur and started living in Dhaka in 2000. The next year, I was born in Dhaka. So, I’m a city boy, but in origin, I’m a Chandpurian. Whenever my family got a chance, like summer vacation, winter vacation, and Eid vacation, we returned to Chandpur. In my childhood, I loved being there because all my relatives lived there. You won’t believe me, but I have 7 uncles from my mother’s side and 3 uncles and 3 aunts from my father’s side. Now, you can imagine how much my uncles and aunties loved me whenever my parents visited from Dhaka. I used to play all day long with my uncles and ate delicious food made by my aunties and grandmother. I always felt sad when I had to leave this place because of school or my father’s job. It was my favorite place in my childhood days. But in 2013, due to our (me and my sibling’s) studies and some family issues, we stopped visiting our hometown. After 10 years, in 2023, my elder sister got engaged to a handsome guy who also comes from Chandpur. And obviously, the marriage function was held in Chandpur. For my sister’s marriage, my family had to go to Chandpur one more time. That’s how I visited my hometown after 10 years. I had another motive to visit Chandpur, and it was to explore the famous spots there. Yes, Chandpur doesn’t have many attractions, but it has some famous spots worth visiting. You will find out soon.

How to reach Chandpur?

From Dhaka, you can go to Chandpur by bus, train, and launch. By bus, you can reach Chandpur within 3 to 3.30 hours. There are plenty of bus options like local, standard, and AC-type to go to Chandpur. The price of a bus ticket is within 3 to 7 dollars. I don’t recommend going to Chandpur by bus, otherwise if you are in a hurry. The journey can be boring, and there’s nothing pleasant to see on the way. If you choose a local bus, you may witness passengers, especially females, vomiting. In Bangladesh, I don’t know why female passengers can’t handle long bus journeys. Now, moving to the train, you have to change trains twice on your way to Chandpur. First, you have to reach Comilla from Dhaka, and then you need to change trains to reach Chandpur. Isn’t it a hassle to go to Chandpur this way? So, I think it’s not an appropriate way. Now, you guessed it right; the best way to go to Chandpur is by launch. In a launch, you can freely walk, go to the roof, sit anywhere, have plenty of food options, and the most important thing is you can enjoy the beauty of nature that a river offers. And it’s not that costly; you can get a normal ticket for 1.5 dollars, a business class seat for 3 dollars, and a cabin for 10 dollars. I always prefer this way to go to my hometown, Chandpur. Look at this picture, you will understand why I chose launch to go to Chandpur.

Visit my lovely village in Chandpur

After reaching Chandpur, we hired a CNG to reach our village from the Chandpur launch terminal. Where my parents used to live. It is a small village named Mominpur and is 12 km away from the Chandpur launch terminal. The village is surrounded by a river named Dakatia Nodi. I swam a lot in this river in my childhood. I also learned how to drive a boat here. And my father’s house is near the river. After 10 years, when I visited my village, I found it as usual, nothing changed. I was so happy to see that. There is a place in my village that I like the most. See the video. Isn’t the place calm and peaceful? What do you say?

I will add a video of my whole village, next time when I visit again my village. Then, you will understand how beautiful my village is.

Places worth visiting in Chandpur

You already know why I came to Chandpur after 10 years. first to attend my elder sister’s wedding and second to explore Chandpur. Before my sister’s wedding, I tried to find some places with the help of my laptop. And I found some interesting spots to visit in Chandpur. After finishing my elder sister’s wedding, I went to these places to satisfy my thirst for Exploration. The places are:

  • Boro Station
  • Mini Cox’s Bazar (Balur Char)
  • Meghna Ghat
  • Faridganj
  • Mohonpur

I visited these places within 3 days with my cousins, and we did one more thing. Ate Hilsa fish. In Bangladesh, people call Chandpur ‘Hilsar Bari.’ Hilsa is famous all over the world for its taste, and the best Hilsa in the world is available in Bangladesh, especially in Chandpur. So, we had to eat it while I was in Chandpur. I purchased the Hilsa fish from a fisherman at an unknown Ghat. The funny thing is you can cook the fish there, and believe me, their cooking hand is awesome. You will remember the taste of the fish for the rest of your life. Let’s move to our tourist spots.

Boro Station: Here, I found the meeting point of three rivers (Padma, Meghna, Dakatia). People call it ‘Theen (3) Mohna Chandpur’ or ‘Theen Nodir Mohona.’ Also, I discovered a sculpture called Raktadhara, connected to our liberation war. In this place, many of our freedom fighters were tortured by the West Pakistan army. I also enjoyed the sunrise and sunset from there, and that time light reflection made it more magical. It is just a few km away from the Chandpur launch terminal and 3.4 km from the bus terminal. If you are in Chandpur, just go and visit it.

Mini Cox’s Bazar: It is not what you are thinking. I am not talking about Cox’s Bazar. I am talking about a char (land) that grows up in the middle of the Padma River. We are Bengali, so obviously we are emotional. Otherwise, we never named a char (land) as Mini Cox’s Bazar. Yes, the char can give the vibes of Cox’s Bazar because it is surrounded by the river Padma. To go to Mini Cox’s Bazar you need to hire a boat. I remember we hired a boat for 12 dollars.

Faridganj and Mohonpur: Every village in Chandpur is beautiful, but I like Faridganj the most. You can witness a 700-year-old structure called Lohagarh Moth, and Dhanua Mini Haor (offers a peaceful view) there. Mohonpur offers the only freshwater beach in Bangladesh, Mohonpur Parjatan Centre, where you can enjoy quality time with your loved one. My cousin and I went there with our uncle’s bike.

Meghna River: Chandpur district offers some viewpoints like Meghna Viewpoint (near the Poran Bazar Ghat), Meghna Viewpoint (Horisova Road), and Meghna Viewpoint (Horisova Rd, Ronogowal). I only visited the first one. In there, you can see the natural beauty of the Meghna River. If you are a person who finds happiness in moving water, then the Meghna River is for you.

I believe my hometown Chandpur offers a lot more to see. I will soon find out everything, Inshallah. And share it with all of you through Huntingworldbeauty.

Stay and meal

Chandpur is not as popular as any other tourist spot, but it has many hotels like Hotel Garden, Chandpur, Gazi Residential Hotel, Hotel Prince (Residential), and Hotel Grand Hilsha. These hotels are not 5-star rated hotels, but you can stay there cozily. And for meals, I will suggest Queen’s Cafe (Haji Mohsin Rd, Chandpur), Western Kitchen Chandpur (Press Club Road, Chandpur), Cafe Corner (Corner Plaza, Shahid Muktijoddha Rd, Chandpur 3600), Grand City (Shahid Muktijoddha Rd, Chandpur). And there are many more roadside hotels where you can also have meals comfortably. You already know that I have many aunt-uncles in Chandpur, so I stay at one of my aunt-uncle’s houses. If you can stay at any of your relatives’ houses, that will be best. I hope you like my Hometown.
