Sangu River

Sangu River

Geographically, Bangladesh has many rivers, even if we consider the number of rivers, my country easily beat many big countries worldwide. Leaving aside all this, let’s introduce you all to the most beautiful river in my country, the Sangu River.at least, in my opinion, it is the most beautiful river in my nation. The Sangu River is not the biggest or the widest in the country, but the river is a mountain river. Which is flowing almost throughout Bandarban. It is a mountain river and it is located in Bandarban, can you imagine how beautiful this river is? No other river in Bangladesh can match the adventure that this river, flowing through the foothills of huge mountains, can offer to travel enthusiasts and nature lovers.

How it looks

The Sangu River flows south through the Chittagong’s Gohira into the Bay of Bengal and its source is the mountains. Travel enthusiasts cross this river while exploring Amiakhum Waterfall and Nafakhum Waterfall. Now tell me, have you seen the movie “Jungle“? This movie shows a river that is narrow, shallow but very long. When the characters start their journey, within a few minutes they find themselves at the foot of large mountains and the mountains are surrounded by dense jungle. As they proceed, they will come across sizable boulder formations obstructing the river’s course. Somewhere on the banks of the river, there are villages of tribals, somewhere its depth is so shallow that characters have to get out of the boat and walk forward. Just such an adventurous experience can be found on the way from Thanchi to Ramarkri in Bandarban.

Starting from Thanchi Nouka Ghat, travelers will see big hills and tribal villages and will come to an area called Raja Pathor where big stones are seen. This place has religious importance for the tribals there. Travelers will see many more natural interests up to Remarki Falls.

2. Do I require a guide in order to visit?
If you just want to travel the Sangu River, the boatman will do the work of your guide. But I would also say to keep a guide with you, the place is remote. If you have a guide, don’t you have to worry about safety?

The last time I went to visit Nafakhum waterfall, I rented a boat for 4000 BDT. If you just want to explore the river, it might cost less.
