Tour of Sundarban

Tour of Sundarban

There are many places in Bangladesh that every person of Bangladesh should visit once, whether you are a tourist/traveler or not. The Sundarbans is unquestionably one of these locations, which are the pride of the nation. Here, my effort will be to encourage everyone to visit Sundarbans. I have no doubt that the tour of Sundarban will rank among your favorite trips ever. “Sundar” means pretty, and “Ban” means jungle in the Bangla language, so Sundarban means pretty jungle. Yes, Sundarbans is truly a beautiful forest, and at the same time, it is the perfect place in Bangladesh to watch wildlife.

Importance of Sundarbans

Sundarbans is the world’s largest mangrove forest. Seeing the beauty of this forest and several of its significant features, on 6 December 1997, UNESCO declared this forest a World Heritage Site. A World Heritage site is a place or area that enriches biodiversity, has a significant history, and greatly impacts our environment. Being a zoology student, I can tell you that Sundarbans has more biodiversity than all other forests in Bangladesh. In total, 425 species of wild animals ruled the Sundarbans. The royal cat, the Royal Bengal Tiger, is the ultimate ruler of the forest. Among the 425 species, you will see many unknown birds, deer, monkeys, crocodiles, wild boars, and otters, and if your luck is exceptionally good, you will also see the Royal Bengal Tiger. Also, the Sundarbans works as a natural safeguard. From the past to now, it has protected us from so many Cyclones.

How it looks

Sadly, Sundarbans shares its land area with two countries; Obviously, one country is Bangladesh, and the other one is India. But we have a larger part (66 %) than India(34%). I am happy with this fact. Sundarbans capture 6,517 square kilometers of land in the southwest side of my country. Numerous large and small islands connected by canals make up the Sundarbans. Every island in the Sundarbans is covered with dense forest. Sundari, Gewa, Passur, Goran, Keora, Jhana, and Khalshi are the most common trees of Sundarban. The Canals are the only way to explore the Sundarbans. Without these canals, it is impossible to enter the Sundarbans. If you ever get the chance to see the forest from a drone camera, then you will understand how beautiful the forest is! Are you still not feeling the desire to visit the Sundarbans? A tour of Sundarban is badly needed by every Bangladeshi.

Features of Sundarbans

As I am a travel enthusiast, I love to travel and help people travel and explore. So, here I am explaining the features of Sundarbans from a traveling aspect. Now, a question comes to everyone’s mind: How can tourists enjoy Sundarbans when it is the most dangerous forest in Bangladesh?

1st feature

The Bangladesh Govt built many spots and Ecotourism parks to serve travel and tourism. Likes: Karamjal, Harbaria, Hiron point, Shekhertek Ecotourism park, Alibanda Ecotourism, etc. In every place, there are trekking trails with a watch tower through the deep forest. During your visit, don’t miss any trekking trails. These trails are the best part of a tour of Sundarban, walking through the deep forest, seeing wild animals and birds, being afraid of the tiger, and finding its footprints to see it despite being afraid. Not only us but also foreign tourists flock here to see the Royal Bengal Tiger, but the chances are quite low. During my two-time visit, I was not lucky enough to see a Tiger in the Sundarbans. Don’t worry about safety; a forest guide with a gun will be there to ensure tourists’ safety.

2nd feature

Some of these places also feature Mini zoos where tourists can see crocodiles, tortoises, deer, monkeys, and various kinds of birds. To enrich the tour of Sundarban more, there are a lot of islands called chars. Like Dubla char, pokkir char, Dimmer char etc. You should read my other blog, ” Sundarban Tourist Spot,” to know everything that you can visit on a tour of Sundarban.

3rd feature

Recently, A Few eco-resorts have been built by the side of Sundarbans. Again, I say these are located by the side of the forest, not in the deep. These eco-resorts open a new way to enjoy the Sundarbans, and tourists like them very much. It would be great if these eco-resorts would remain as eco-resorts, not modern luxury resorts.

How to visit Sundarbans

Many tour operators provide Sundarban tour packages by ships like the houseboats of Haors. In their tour package, they cover everything: accommodation, food, plan, entertainment, safety, guide, small boat, and the other things tourists need for a pleasant tour of Sundarban. All you need to do is book one of the packages and come to their selected place to hop on the ship you reserved. Normally, these tour operators anchor their ships in Jailkhana Ferry Ghat or Mongla of Khulna. There are many websites out there where tourists can book Sundarban tour packages. Before booking, overview of the whole package: route, spots, management, etc. The two times I visited Sundarbans, I went this way. Both times, I found it very comfortable. It is a good way- let me correct my sentence, it is the ultimate way to explore the Sundarbans.

If you are up to just staying overnight by the side of Sundarban, then you can book a resort. You must be yearning to visit the Sundarbans, right?

Sundarbans
The best time to visit

There is no better time to visit the Sundarbans than winter because, at that time, the Bay of Bengal is very calm, and the water level is very low. It is, therefore, simple to visit every location in the Sundarbans. In addition, tourists come to the Sundarbans to see wildlife along with seeing the Sundarbans. In the Sundarbans, more movement is observed among the animals in the winter. Therefore, winter is the best time to see wildlife in the Sundarbans. Even among the tourists who have seen the Royal Bengal Tiger, they have seen it in the winter. Considering everything, winter is the best time to plan a tour of Sundarban. Well, in what season are you reading my blog? Isn’t it winter?

Rules you should obey

1. Never give any room to the wild monkeys. Like give them food, want to get close to them, want to play with them, etc. If you do this, then these monkeys can attack you or can snatch your accessories.

2. While walking on every trail in the Sundarbans, make sure that you are with the group; don’t think about walking separately from the group. Who knows what dangers are hidden in the depths of the Sundarbans?

3. Always obey your tour guide.
